Like many sons of professional athletes, Derrick Deese Jr. wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps.With one notable difference: He had no desire to reach the NFL through the trenches. ‘The big thing for me was, once I figured out my dad was an offensive lineman, I said, ‘You’re not going to get me to play O-line,” Deese Jr. said, laughing. ‘I told him that I liked to score touchdowns.’ Playing a different position won’t prevent Deese Jr. from reaching the same destination as his dad, a longtime 49ers offensive lineman who started at right guard on the franchise’s last Super-Bowl-winning team.
